A block pattern is a very basic pattern that acts as a building block to make other patterns. The block is adapted from the sloper to include wearing ease (so that it can be worn comfortably) and design ease (such that the garment has the correct silhouette). This block can then be adapted so you can design and draft your own garment patterns, for example by adding a button placket, inserting pockets, changing the neckline or adding a frill to a sleeve etc.

The sloper can be made into a block which can be made into a pattern.

There are tutorials online so that you can use draft your own blocks or draft blocks from existing patterns. Blocks are also available to download online.
